Meet Sharona Wolff

Goldsmith, Founder & Designer

Portrait of Sharona Wolff, founder of Atelier Wolff, wearing gold rings, bracelets, and earrings from her collection

Sharona Wolff draws on the belief that our most meaningful objects are those that carry a story – geological, familial, civilizational – and give it a form and beauty that endures, passed down through generations.

Her jewelry holds something real, a story, a myth, an emotion and her work is rooted in provenance and exceptional craftsmanship; drawing on the decorative arts of antiquity for inspiration. The intricate designs and statement jewels are ancient in their references, singular in their execution and deeply personal in their intent.

Design Voice

Melding antique inspiration with contemporary style, Atelier Wolff’s esthetic stems from Sharona’s childhood roots in the world of geology and mining, with a nomadic geologist father who specialized in gold and base metal exploration across Australia, Africa and Asia. She grew up surrounded by gold and her mother’s collection of family jewelry, passed down through generations. One piece started her on her jewelry journey. A dented bracelet with missing stones, intricate in detail, in design and execution quite unlike anything of the times, given as a keepsake to a great-great aunt and passed down through her grand-niece, Sharona’s grandmother. She loved it, something about it resonated and remarkably it emerged from more than two dozen relocations unscathed. The dents were straightened, the gemstones replaced and when the opportunity arose to study some of the techniques of the goldsmith’s of antiquity, she realized that she had found her metier. There she found her bracelet – it was made in the 1800s in the Archeological Revival style of ancient Etruria.

She launched her Atelier in 2018, where each piece begins with a story – drawn from antiquity, from the mythology of a culture, from the special beauty of a stone pulled from the earth. Then it is made by hand, with a careful eye and ancient techniques, into something that is uniquely itself, a miniature jewel encapsulating stories. The jewels are meant to be worn, to take on new stories, connect the people who wear it to something larger than themselves, to each other, and across time.

Sharona’s designs are made by hand, in 22 karat gold, with an occasional touch of platinum. Each time she melts her custom alloy, she hears her father’s voice. She champions provenance - hand craftsmanship and ancient goldsmithing techniques such as granulation, filigree and chasing and repousse - to create unmistakably unique jewels, that are not merely an accessory, but an archive, not a decoration, but a declaration.

Her work is not for everyone, her esthetic is distinct, her voice her own and those who collect it recognize it immediately – often before they can explain why. They never take it off, their daughters borrow it and never quite return it, people ask them about it. For Atelier Wolff, beauty is not mere decoration, it is the way the invisible is made visible – emotion, memory, identity and belonging. Every design begins there.
